EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Mr. Huffer has served as both the Supervisor of Music and the Band Director for the past 40 years. The first 10 years he was at schools in Western Oklahoma and for the last 30 he was the Supervisor of Music in the Muskogee Public Schools. He was a member of the 45th Division Band for eight years and Director of the American Legion Drum Corps for eight years.

He received both his Bachelor's and Masters' Degrees at Phillips University and has worked on Music Supervision at the University of Oklahoma. Mr. Huffer was the founder of both the Eastern District Band Director’s Association and the Muskogee Community Band. He is a past president of the Oklahoma Band Director’s Association, as well as the past secretary of the American School Band Director’s Association. He was also Executive Director of the Oklahoma Music Educators Association for 50 years.

In 2024 Mr. Huffer was inducted into the Oklahoma  Music Hall of Fame. (article)

BAND DIRECTOR

Mr. Thompson has been a public school band director since 1979 and is currently teaching at Keys Public Schools. As well as teaching in public schools, Mr. Thompson has also served as a church orchestra and choir director. Teaching private lessons and playing semi-professionally in the Tulsa and surrounding areas keep Mr. Thompson in touch with the performance side of music. He currently plays with the Oklahoma Baptist Symphony and the Tulsa Starlight Concert Band. Mr. Thompson graduated from Muskogee High School, then received his Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He has been a member of the Muskogee Community Band for over 10 years and has served as the associate conductor for the past three years.
